9 pounds in a year
Today was Littlebit's two year doctor appointment. She ways 28lbs. (She is only 5lbs. away from Lovey.) She has gained 9lbs in the last year. The doctor gave her the book Bingo, so we listened to the song in the car on the way home. Both kids were very good. Lovey let me talk to the doctor without interrupting and Littlebit was excited to have her look in her ears and mouth. No ear infections. Yippee! We are going to have her speech tested because not being understood is very frustrating for her and causes screaming. I actually left the doctor's feeling good and not exhausted from entertaining or trying to keep them from getting into something, so we celebrated by going to Starbucks and Half Price Books.

I knew I should take her to the doctor
I took Littlebit to the doctor today. I have been debating all weekend whether she should go, but I just didn't want to be seen as the worrier parent that I am.
She's had a cold for a week and when she gets a cold she wheezes. I put her on her nebulizer, but it didn't seem to be working (we just went through this at Christmas). I called the doctor last Wednesday and they prescribed another inhaler in addition to her nebulizer. Fine, but it says rinse mouth after use because it can cause oral thrush (and don't let the child swallow the water). Have they ever tried to get an almost 2 year old to rinse their mouth? Sure she can spit, but only when she is testing us. This feat takes two of us and after being bitten I think we may have perfected it, in fact Daddy did it by himself tonight.
Our doctor doesn't work on Tuesdays, so we had to see one that always makes me feel like bad parent. So was I going to be bad parent for not bringing her in sooner or annoying overprotective parent who is imaging things? When we got there her oxygen levels were 100% and she was a little wheezy, so I felt silly for taking her in for that.
I also wanted them to look at her finger because on Saturday she fell pulling a wagon and skinned her middle finger and tore the nail half way down. It vacillates between looking okay and oh my, we need to take her in now! The doctor said she took off the top layer of skin on her finger, so it looks like a burn. The fingernail needs to stay covered so she doesn't catch it on something. It should heal in a week or two. Okay, so maybe she didn't need to be seen for that either.
But wait, while there he checked (and cleaned) her ears and she has a double ear infection! Not what I was expecting, but not a surprise either. (Lovey had them, Daddy had them, and she had one at Christmas.) Wheezing taken care of? Check. Finger checked out okay? Check. Ear infection? Oops. I knew she should go in for some reason, I just had the reason wrong.

Maybe I'm overreacting
This week could have been better. Lovey went back to school after 3 weeks off, but the change in routine has made him tired and now he is acting up.
Littlebit hasn't been sleeping, but she has four teeth coming in. Today she keeps saying ow and pointing to her mouth. Poor kid.
On the subject of teeth, after Christmas, Lovey was wrestling with daddy and hit his front tooth on daddy's knee. Well, it keeps getting grayer and grayer everyday. I called the dentist New Year's Day, but he said it is probably dying and they don't do anything for baby teeth. I just need to check for cuts or swelling to his gums. I don't see any, so I haven't taken him in. I think it is very noticeable and he keeps calling it his dead tooth. I'm hoping it is one of the first he loses. Did it stop him from wanting to wrestle? No!
Friday I went to a new doctor for a check up and I'm not sure I like her. I know that I am overweight, but she made me feel awful. She wants me to go on a no/low carb diet, but she didn't ask me what I ate. We rarely go out to fast food restaurants and we don't eat a lot of packaged foods, but she never asked me that. She basically said that it didn't matter that I get up early every morning to exercise, so I want to know if I can quit doing that? I would rather sleep in or do something else. It was all I could do to keep from crying in the doctor's office and I cried all of the way home. It just irritates me because she didn't ask about what we eat. When she said no potatoes or pasta and I replied that my menu this week had both of those things, I think she made assumptions about me. These things are not always my menu.
It depresses me because I love to bake and I enjoy making pancakes and cookies and cakes, so now I feel like she is taking away something that I enjoy doing. I know I don't have to follow her advice or go back to see her, but I think I will keep my next appointment and see if she asks any more about my eating habits. This may also just be her latest kick because the person before me left with the same flier and there was a large stack of them in the office.
I think I will take away from this watching the carbs that I eat, but I'm not going to be fanatical about them. This was similar to what I started to do before I went to see her. I will continue to exercise in the morning. (I even got my husband to join me today, but I couldn't stop laughing because he was being goofy about it and called the lady names.) I will be thankful that it is only a baby tooth for Aidan and know that someday Littlebit will sleep again.
