Camping

Last weekend, we took the kids camping at Lake Crescent. We only had two three day weekends left before Labor Day, so even though we had a 30% chance of rain, we decided to go for it.

It was cold on the drive up there. It's August and only 58 degrees. Brrr... By the time we got there, the sun had come out and it started to warm up. Hooray. After finding a site (there were only 5 left) and setting up our tent, the kids wanted to go swimming in the lake. Brrr... I brought life jackets because if the weather held up we were going to take a ride in my dad's boat. I made them wear the life jackets since I was not going swimming. Lovey was disappointed because it made it difficult to swim. Littlebit didn't last very long in the water because it was so cold.

At about 5am, we woke up to rain on our tent. It was just a little drizzle, so we decided to pay for the next night of camping too. We went hiking to Sol Duc Falls with my mom and went we came back, we discovered that it must have rained a lot while we were gone.
There was water under our tent and the chairs were full of water. We decided to pack up the tent and end our camping trip early. I tried to be a good blogger and take pictures of the watery mess, but I got in trouble for not helping pack up. Oh well.
Here's the mess on the tarp. You can't really see it, but it is covered in water.
Big Daddy pouring water out of the chair.

Now we have everything set up in our garage to dry. When our neighbor saw the tent in our garage, he laughed and asked if we were camping in there. No, we just have bad luck camping. This is the third trip in a row that we have been rained on.

I'm melting

It is so unbelievably hot here. I would have never thought that the weather forecast would show 110 degrees as the temperature where I live. Hello, I live in the Pacific Northwest for a reason.

Lovey went to spend a few days with Grandpa to go fishing. I am jealous. It is cooler there. If I didn't have to work tonight, I would be there too. Lovey cried though because he was missing the 100 degree weather. I think he managed to get his 100 degrees because one of the stops on his way to Grandpa's it was 104.

Littlebit and I just sit in front of the fans and watch tv or play with a few toys. Who wants to exert themselves. Ugh. Yesterday evening we picked up Big Daddy from work and went to the mall. We weren't the only ones there. Littlebit played on the toys there for awhile. We didn't come home until 8 and it was in the 90s outside and 88 downstairs in the house! I don't know what we will do today when it is supposed to be about 10 degrees hotter. We may have to hit the library. Big Daddy and Littlebit will probably watch movies at his office while I work tonight. At least there will be a/c at both of our offices.

There is not much relief in sight as the ten day forecast doesn't show anything below the 80s. The average high for this time of year is what we are getting at night as our low. This is crazy and I think I am melting!

I hate hot weather!

Today is the second day of 90 degree weather and I am hot. The upstairs of our house is at an uncomfortable 88 degrees and we have 5 fans just pushing the hot air around. It is still in the 80s outside, so there is no cool air to bring in. Yes, I know that it is hotter in other places, but I have lived in the Pacific Northwest my entire life and I live here for a reason - the mild climate. I hate to be hot. I hate being sweaty and having my clothes cling to me. I dislike having hot, sweaty little children cuddle up with me when I'm hot, breathing their hot little breath on me.

I hate to cook when it is hot, so we went out to eat tonight, but it was hot in the restaurant. We drove around after eating, since the price of gas was worth staying in the air-conditioned car longer.

I know it can be hotter, it reached 100 the other year. Three years ago we went to New Mexico in June and July. We landed in El Paso, TX and when the doors of the airport opened sending in suffocating heat and sucking out all of the air-conditioned goodness, I could help but say, "Who in their right mind would live here?" Now my husband's grandparents and aunt, who live in Texas and New Mexico, where standing there. Oops. I was also in a foul mood because I hate flying, it was a turbulent flight and I had been up since 2 am., but that is beside the point. We spent the entire 10 days, running from one air-conditioned space to the next and by the end I could stand a little bit of the heat. Still, I will never live there.

My brother and his family spent the last year living outside of Death Valley. Now they have moved back to St. Louis. I won't be visiting in the summer.

Summer is my favorite time of year, but leave me with the temperatures in the 70s and I am happy. I hate being hot!

Happy Birthday!

Today is my husband's birthday! We decided to bring treats to his work and then take him to lunch after going to the market. We brought oreo truffles to share with his coworkers and then went to Tasty Morsels for lunch. We sat outside and ate our scone sandwiches - yummy. After we took him back to work, we went home to finish the cake. My son helped me unwrap 2 bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. (I used more than it called for.) Thank you Bakerella for the wonderful idea. I meant to take a picture of the cake, but it was gone too fast. We invited friends over for dinner and had a great time.

The thunderstorms this morning were great! I love a good thunderstorm. My son thought they were a little scary. We decided that it was God and the angels bowling. He asked if they could bowl quieter next time, so we went outside and yelled to the sky to keep it down. Oh, four year olds. The weather is definitely not as hot this weekend as last (almost 20 degrees difference), but it is a little muggy. Our little backyard pool is getting a lot of use and so are the four sunblocks I have purchased this year. I certainly hope that the nice weather continues this summer.
