Be Careful What You Wish For

Last Wednesday I wanted fluffy snow for the kids to play in and that is what we got. We woke up Thursday to a bit of snow on the ground and the news reporting late start. Learning from my past mistake, I encouraged Lovey to go outside and play in it before school. While he was outside playing, it started snowing harder and they canceled school. This meant no field trip for Littlebit and no 100th Day of School for Lovey.

The kids had a great time playing in the backyard and we even go the sled out of the garage and went sledding in the overflow pond across the street. They build the Great Wall of China out of snow on my patio table and even took out a toy dump truck to move snow around the yard. It was great.
I thought we would be back to school on Friday with just a late start, but there was no school Friday. It was in the single digits and really icy. It was nice and sunny, so I didn't mind standing outside while the kids went sledding again.
By Sunday our snow finally melted and the rain came,  but the snow returned this morning. Thankfully it didn't return until after Lovey went to school. So now we have had our fluffy snow and we were able to go sledding, have a snowball fight, and make snow angels. I am ready for spring now.

100 Days of School - A Thank You

Tomorrow is 100 days of school. Lovey cannot wait to celebrate! He has been counting down to this day and talking about it forever. They have learned songs to prepare for it and he has been singing them all around the house.

I thought that maybe I would take the opportunity to create a thank you for his teacher. Usually teachers hear about the things that they are not doing right, so I thought now would be a great opportunity to express our appreciation for Lovey's wonderful teacher.

Lovey and I created a basket with 100 thank yous for 100 days of school! I typed some of the thank you notes on the computer and some are in Lovey's handwriting. It was cute to see what things he came up to thank her for.

Here are some of his ideas:
Thank you for teaching me to add.
Thank you for teaching me to subtract.
Thank you for helping us.
Thank you.

We put it all in a basket with 10 chocolates (they counted towards the 100 thank yous) and attached a little card to it. I think it turned out pretty cute and he can't wait to take it to school.

Snow

For months we heard what a snowy and cold winter we were going to have this year. But that has not been the case. Maybe in other parts of the country, but not here. We have three days to make up, but only two are for snow. The district was so concerned that if we had the winter that was predicted, school would go into July (yes - July! Poor planning on their part.), that we made up one day in January and one yesterday.

This morning we were so excited to wake up to snow! There wasn't a lot, but it was there. Lovey and Littlebit went outside to play while I made breakfast and it was a good thing they did because it started to melt as we were walking home from the bus stop.

I was hoping for a little more than a dusting of snow, where are the 2-6 inches they were talking about? I want fluffy snow for the kids to play in!

Be Mine, Valentine!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! We sure did.

We started off the day with pancakes cut out in heart shapes and orange berry smoothie.

I cut Lovey's sandwich into hearts which he loved. I am glad he is not too old to be embarrassed by it. Littlebit and I shared a hot dog and root beer at Costco since we were running errands. She was sweet and asked to save her root beer so she could share it with Lovey.

For dinner I made angel hair pasta with artichokes and gorgonzola butter sauce, salad, and garlic butter rolls. Yummy!!! We also had cream puffs for dessert.

The kids made hearts for each other and we gave them conversation hearts and Reese's peanut butter cups. Big Daddy gave me a charm for my bracelet and I bought him a Starbucks card. I had bought beer at Costco and jokingly told him that was his present too.

Lovey made me a domino race for Valentine's Day and Littlebit put a puzzle together by herself. Sometimes these kids are too cute and funny.

Princess Ball

Big Daddy took Littlebit to the Princess Ball again this year. When it came time to get dressed, she decided that she didn't want to go. She didn't want to wear her princess dress because it is too itchy. Grrr... (I am so tired of hearing that all of her clothes are itchy.) I told her that she didn't have to wear the princess dress, so she wore her Christmas dress.

Once she was there, she did dance with Big Daddy and then ditched him for the princesses. I mean, come on, Rapunzel and Tianna were there! She even won a Princess Barbie doll and it was Belle! She doesn't have Belle. She told me now she only needs Tianna and Snow White. We are being overrun by Princess Barbie dolls!

Birthdays!

This past week was our birthday week. Well, really it's only 2 days, but it felt like a week.

Littlebit had a party with the grandparents. She chose Tinkerbell as her theme and wanted to have purple and green cupcakes. The cupcakes worked out well because then I could use them for her actual birthday too. She scored on the new clothes and books. She loved having all of her grandparents here.

We made cookies for her special day at preschool, which was also my birthday. She didn't want us to stay at school, so we only stayed long enough for her to read her Elephant and Piggie book and show her new Rapunzel doll. She told the class that Rapunzel has long hair to trap the prince!

Since we had cupcakes and cookies left over from Littlebit's birthday, I didn't make a dessert for my birthday. Big Daddy did take me out for coffee and donuts while Littlebit and Lovey were at school and he came home to make dinner. Woo hoo, I had the night off!
