It has been a tough week in our house. We are learning how to say goodbye to best friends. We have done this before, but Lovey was 5 and Littlebit was 2. Littlebit and Lovey's best friends are moving to Korea. It is the downfall of living in a military area and not being a military family. Your friends always leave. We've known for a few months that they were moving, but it just seemed to come up so fast. For the last two years, they have lived in the cul de sac behind us. It was perfect because I could send the kids out to play with their friends and still watch them from the comfort of my home. The last few weekends have been full of sleepovers, but as the movers came the last two days and they are no longer staying in their house it has become real.
We made each of them care packages and hope that they will write, but my heart breaks for my kids. There are several other girls Littlebit's age in the neighborhood, but not many other boys Lovey's age. I am hoping a family just like this one moves into their house. For my sake and my kids!

Disneyland
In November we took the kids to Disneyland as an early Christmas present. We went during conference week at school, so both kids only missed two half days of school. We had such a great time. The weather was beautiful, even a little too hot at times.
I had not been to Disneyland since I was 8, so it was so exciting for me too. Grandpa and Grandma were able to join us which was fun.
On our first day we started to follow the plans on one of the apps we had, but then decided to make our own plans and just use the app for line wait times. Littlebit did not like the first ride we went on which was Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. She said it made her tummy hurt. She loved the Matterhorn though. She was not so sure about space mountain, but we all loved splash mountain and went on that twice! Grandpa was a good sport and sat in the front both times. Poor Grandpa was soaked.
At California Adventures, Lovey was brave enough to go on California Screamin. Littlebit and I stayed behind and went on the carousel, but everyone else went. Grandpa loved it and went a second time. We all loved Radiator Springs and managed to go two times. Thank goodness for fast passes because the wait was always over an hour long. Lovey wanted to go on the Tower of Terror, so Grandpa, Grandma and I took him over there. Right before we got into the elevator he decided he didn't want to do it (much to my relief because neither did I). Thankfully the cast members showed us the exit and Lovey and I left to wait for Grandpa and Grandma.
We met up with some friends by chance while we were at California Adventures which was fun! It is always fun to see people you know.
We were a little disappointed our last two days in Disneyland because they were filming the ABC Christmas special and the parade we wanted to see and quite a few rides that we wanted to do were closed. It was fun to see the performers and the concerts, but the rides that were open were crowded.
On our last day we went to Goofy's Kitchen for breakfast. It was a little expensive and not all of the characters came over to where we were sitting, but it was fun. Littlebit was so excited that I let her have ice cream for breakfast! (After she ate some eggs and pancakes.)
We were all very sad to leave and are looking forward to visiting again!

Thank you DreamWorks
While out walking Ballou tonight, Littlebit and I were commenting on the moon. It was big and bright and full. I asked Littlebit if she could see the man in the moon. She said no because you can only see him when the moon is little and he is sitting on the end of it fishing. It took me a moment to realize that it was the DreamWorks logo she was describing.

Busy week
This week has been busy. Lovey spent four days at baseball camp. It was 9-4 everyday. It was warm out and they were outside all day except for lunch. He loved going to lunch because it was in the university cafeteria. He loved it and had a great time, but is exhausted.
Littlebit had her first sleepover this week. She was supposed to go to a slumber party in June, but she got pink eye the day before. She has been dying to have a sleepover! Saturday night, her friend, K came over to stay the night. They stayed up past 10, which is late for Littlebit, but they didn't start playing together until almost 7 that night.
K had Littlebit over on Tuesday for a sleepover. Both girls were so excited. Littlebit wrote it on the calendar, so she could yell, "Sleepover Day!" when she woke up that morning. They had a spa day and put coconut oil on their faces and cucumbers on the eyes. Too cute! I wasn't sure how Littlebit would do, but I didn't get a late night phone call!
Now that it is Friday, I declared it a stay at home day since by 10:30 I was wishing for bedtime for them. They are so tired they are constantly yelling at each other. Oh my! A stay at home day is probably just what we all need.

Future?
Lovey informed me that he would like to be a jockey when he grows up, if his baseball career doesn't work out. Hmmm...
When asked if he thought he should try to ride a horse more than once. He responded that he had never been on a horse.
I had to dig up the picture from when he was one.

Science
Littlebit wanted to do a science project this summer. She wanted to take white flowers and put them in colored water to see what happened.
We bought white carnations at Safeway and put them in red, blue, yellow, and green colored water. some of the flowers, I sliced the stem in half and put one flower in two colors. Both Lovey and Littlebit thought it was cool that one flower turned two colors.
We found out that the green food coloring worked the best, followed by yellow and then blue. Red did not show up very much.
We then decided to try the walking water experiment. We put a paper towel in the blue water and another in the yellow water and put the end of those paper towels in an empty glass. Eventually the empty glass filled with green water! They really thought that was cool.

Those kids...
Littlebit was telling me that her tongue hurt yesterday. One of her taste buds looked a little swollen and I said that a taste bud was inflamed. At dinner she announced to Big Daddy, "I have an inflated taste bug." We couldn't stop laughing, partly because I heard flaming taste bug and not inflated. Apparently we have taste bugs on our tongue and when they are irritated, they inflate.

On to Week 4 of Summer Vacation
Three weeks have flown by already! And we are already a week into July??? How can that be?
We have been enjoying the amazing weather this last week! Beautiful, although a little warm for my Pacific Northwest blood. I was born and raised here, I don't do hot. I do 70s, not the 80s and 90s we had last week. It might be different if we had A/C, but we don't. We have fans. Five of them. When if finally came back into the 70s on Saturday, I was cold. Like sweatshirt and jeans cold. It is still in the 70s, but feels just wonderful now.
Big Daddy had the last week off and it was so nice having him home. We didn't do a lot at the beginning of the week because it was just too hot to move. We went to see Mr. Popper's Penguins with the kids and at the end of the week we went to the Woodland Park Zoo.
We have been looking at pianos a lot because Lovey is at the point in his lessons where he needs a piano. One company was closing one of the stores, so we went to check it out, but we didn't find anything we liked. We went to a local store and showed Big Daddy the piano Lovey and I liked. It is more than we planned on spending, so we went home to make sure that it was doable still. It was, so we called the store on Friday (we knew they were closed for 4th of July) and they had sold the piano that morning. Grrr.... Now we are back to square one. Boo.
It looks like more nice weather this week, so maybe the kids and I might head to a local beach and look for shells. We didn't collect any last year and Littlebit thinks we need some more.

A dinner bell
I have lost my kids. In a good way. They have spent the past week in the cul de sac behind our house. Their friends live back their and thanks to a basketball court directly behind my back fence (grrr....) I can see them playing outside from the back of my house. We have only recently let Littlebit go back there and she has to go with her brother, but she loves it. And they get to play with their friends outside. There has been a lot of bike riding going on!
Usually they are out there until I call them in for dinner or because it is time to go somewhere. I usually have to stand on the steps of the patio and shout for them or climb up the ladder of the playhouse and yell. I am sure the 5 houses in the cul de sac and my neighbors love to hear my yell for my kiddos and Lovey has started venturing farther away with his friends. So now I have started to search for a dinner bell. I would love to hang one by my sliding glass door on the patio and ring it when I need my kids. I think it would sound better than me yelling their names multiple times a day and might save my sanity.
We had one at my grandparents house as a kid a big one on a post and a little one by the door. I don't know of anywhere local to find one and when searching online, I can't hear the sound. Maybe the Habitat ReStore or there is a antique shop nearby I am thinking of. Hmmm... Something new to research.

Happy First Day of Summer!!!
Although the weather this week has been a chance of rain, we actually have been very lucky and it hasn't rained much. We are wrapping up our first week of summer vacation and have been blessed by the weather and very busy.
Last weekend Lovey had a piano recital and Littlebit had a dance recital on the same day. It made it busy, but worked out just great. Nana, Grandpa, and Grandma were able to come see both recitals! Both kids did a fantastic job! It was so nice to spend some time with Nana. The kids love when she comes to visit and it had been such a long time since we had seen her.
The kids and I were hoping to pick strawberries this week, but with a prediction of rain everyday this week we didn't and then it didn't rain. Hopefully next week, but it is supposed to rain then too. We might end up buying them from the farm stand.
We made our summer list last night and hung it on the door. The kids want to go camping, pick berries, go for a bike ride, go to a Mariner's game, have a BBQ with friends, and many other things. I have my own summer list. I want to get our house painted, finish painting the trim in the house (a project started 3 years ago, YIKES!), paint a desk and end table from craigslist. I would love to sew Littlebit a dress and catch up on my scrapbooks.
And relax! I am doing well on the relaxing part. I have already read three books and am halfway through my fourth. So far Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Dicks has been my favorite. Not something I would normally pick up, but so glad that I did.

Baseball, t-ball, science fair, dance, a new dog, and school, oh my!
I am here. I think about posting all the time, I just get distracted by other things. I have several posts in draft form that I need to finish and I will. Soon! I promise, Mom.
We have been busy with baseball for Lovey, t-ball and dance for Littlebit, and I am trying to finish one last class to renew my certificate. My goal is to finish it by the end of the month. Yikes, that is only 10 days away.
Lovey is participating in the school science fair this week, so we are busy working on his project and display board. He typed his report all by himself and I sat back just answering questions. I did show him how to set up a table in excel. His project question was: Which ball will bounce back the highest when dropped from a height of six feet? I guess the science fair project books stored in the garage came in handy. His goal is to get a blue ribbon.
We got a new dog in February. I will post more about him later. His name is Ballou and he is a poodle mix.
